We're studying the book of Isaiah — all sixty-six chapters, across eleven weeks. Our primary source is the Bible itself, the book of Isaiah in full. Our secondary source, guiding us alongside it, is John Goldingay's Isaiah for Everyone. The class will be led by Scott Crowder and available in-person or via Zoom.

Why Isaiah? After the Psalms, it's the book the New Testament quotes more than any other. And within this one scroll, the same prophet hands us two portraits of the same person. Isaiah 9 gives us a king who reigns and rules: a child is born, the government on his shoulder, Prince of Peace, an everlasting throne, no end to the increase of his rule. Isaiah 53 gives us a servant who suffers and saves: despised and rejected, a man of sorrows, acquainted with grief, one from whom people hide their faces.

Same scroll. Same prophet. Same person. The church has spent two thousand years trying to hold those two together — the king and the servant, the throne and the cross. For eleven weeks, that's exactly what we'll be doing too: reading closely, asking honest questions, and getting into the story to find ourselves today.
